Buying a cordless battery powered backpack vacuum

April 17, 2016 by Tom Watson

When I owned my cleaning business the one thing I always wanted was a battery-powered vacuum cleaner.

I’m not talking about a Black and Decker handheld type (I had one of those), or a stick vacuum (had one of those too), I’m talking about a backpack type cordless.

The reason I wanted one so badly was because I had a bunch of accounts where finding an outlet was like finding a needle in a haystack. I felt like the guy in the picture above, dragging a giant extension cords around looking for a plug.

For my situation, I had various apartment complexes and other properties where the number of outlets were limited and I needed a ton of extension cords to power my vacuums. Finding an outlet and taking the time to untangle the cords was always a pain in the butt.

Then inevitably someone would lose a cord, setting me back $25 bucks in the process. I still hate extension cords to this day because of that! Anyway… back in the day there was no such cordless vacuum. When they did come in the market they were way too expensive and the reviews were not very good.

So I never purchased one in all the years I had the business. But times are a changing as they say, and I stumbled across a cordless vacuum that would have fit the bill for me. The unit is the GV 8 Quart Cordless Battery Powered Backpack Vacuum.

It’s sold over on Amazon (that’s where I normally find the best priced items), and while it doesn’t have that many reviews, the ones it does have are all 5 star reviews. That’s a good sign that it is a worthy model to consider if you are in the market for a cordless vacuum.

Is the vacuum inexpensive… no it’s not. It runs about $850.00 bucks. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a good deal. My thought is this… You can easily drop close to $500.00 on a backpack, and for a few bucks more it can be battery powered.

I wouldn’t recommend this for someone just starting out, as there are better ways to spend $850.00. But for those that have the need and the available cash, the GV 8 QT Cordless Vacuum can be a real time-saver. And as we all know, if you save time in the cleaning business, you are saving money!

Wow! This is my dream vacuum. I currently use a proteam sierra but the cord is always a pain. To be a able to whip around the house without a cord would be liberating. For about the same price as the sierra I would definitely consider this vacuum. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Josh! If you wind up getting it, write me back and let me know how you like it. I would like to do a follow-up on it.
